Beauty Benefits of Silk Pillowcases

I absolutely love, love, love my silk pillowcases. I had heard for years that sleeping on a silk pillowcase does wonders for your hair. I always thought it was an “old wives tale”. What I now know is that those old tales have so much wisdom and I’ll never discount them again! This is my secret to waking up with hair I barely have to run a brush through to look gorgeous. It’s a super time saver! The Good Housekeeping Institute even recommends them!

As you sleep, hair glides over a silk pillowcase with minimal friction, which means you'll be less likely to wake up with frizzy hair, tangles or bedhead, whereas cotton can snag hair and muss it up into a nest of disorderly tangles overnight. Cotton creates friction which can lead to tangles and frizz. With silk, your hair retains its moisture and does not lose its natural sheen.

This super sheer texture of a silk pillowcase is beneficial to your skin, as it does not pull moisture from your beautiful face while you sleep. Cotton can easily absorbs vital skin oils which can have you waking up dry.  We get less “crush” wrinkles when sleeping on silk because of its super-smooth surface.

Silk pillowcases can indeed help decrease wrinkles and improve the appearance of skin’s hydration, which can make you look more youthful.

It has been 10 years since I was gifted my first silk pillowcase and I wouldn’t think of sleeping without it. This is an item I will not do without. I even travel with a silk pillowcase wherever I go! It is so soft and luxurious that its comforting effects relax me more than any cotton bedding of the highest thread count. In fact, I am actually dreaming of getting a whole set of silk sheets now!

I’m a firm believer that silk pillowcases can improve skin and hair hydration, and prevent fine lines and wrinkles that result in smoother, frizz-free hair every morning. I’m living proof!
